I'm Dr. Tom Rohrer, PhD, LMFT — a performance coach and psychotherapist
who's spent nearly four decades helping athletes, performers, and business owners move from stuck to their best.
Brainspotting is my lead method, and it's often the fastest way through a block, that talking alone can't reach. Developed in 2003, Brainspotting works from a simple idea: specific eye positions are connected to unprocessed experiences held in the body — trauma, performance blocks, or emotional pain that logic can't untangle on its own. In a session, I help you find the eye position connected to what's holding you back, and we work through it together — often faster than traditional talking therapy alone.
I also draw on two additional approaches, depending on what you need:
The Play Zone — which comes from polyvagal theory, a mental-rehearsal method I use with athletes and performers to practice the state of "the zone" itself, so it becomes something you can call on when it counts instead of something tht only happens on a good day.
Traditional Cognitive-Behavioral Methods (CBT) — a more structured, logic-based approach for reshaping the thought patterns that get in your own way, used alongside Brainspotting when it's the right fit.
